Bastard had all the hallmarks of a place I wanted to like — it's the sort of venue that draws the Shanghai crowd, polished and fashionable.

But the experience fell short in nearly every way. The meal itself was quite disappointing, failing to justify the premium prices or the buzz surrounding the restaurant.
